(Taps mic) Hello? Is this thing on? Check. Check.

My buddy Luke tagged me in his “Blog Questions Challenge” post. The funny thing is that I don’t have blog. Or at least I didn’t until now. My site has always just been a portfolio site. This is actually the first blog post I’ve ever written. Because of Luke, I had to go and create a whole new section on this site. Thanks, Luke.

So, here we go.

Why did you start blogging in the first place?

As mentioned above, I was just minding my own business when out of the blue I was tagged in a “Blog Questions Challenge”, and here we are. I’ve pondered blogging numerous times in the past, but I’ve never considered myself a writer. I’m a private, introverted type and putting things into words is not my strongest trait. Besides, I’ve never thought I had anything super interesting or new to add to the conversation.

What platform are you using to manage your blog and why did you choose it? Have you blogged on other platforms before?

I’m currently using Hugo, a static site generator. Previously, I used Jekyll. And before that I built my site by hand. I like the simplicity of a static site and I like that I can have reusable bits in the form of templates and includes. I don’t need much functionality. I’ve tried services like Squarespace, but I want complete control of my content and design.

How do you write your posts? For example, in a local editing tool, or in a panel/dashboard that’s part of your blog?

I do everything in Nova. The content is written in Markdown. I build the site locally, then FTP to a web server using Transmit.

When do you feel most inspired to write?

I’m not, really. I do have a lot of things bouncing around in my head. But I usually don’t know what it all means or how to make it make sense to someone else.

What’s your favorite post on your blog?

Of the one post I’ve ever written, it’d have to be this one.

Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, a move to another platform, or adding a new feature?

I want to become more comfortable putting things out there and sharing things I’m interested in. I’m going to redesign this site. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but my goal is handcrafted simplicity. No JavaScript, no frameworks, no git, and certainly no AI crap. It’s going to be just HTML and CSS. I think I’ll stay with Hugo, because I’m familiar with it.

Next?

I don’t know anyone personally that has a blog and I don’t feel comfortable passing the baton to someone I don’t know. So this thread ends here, I suppose.

Thanks for reading.
